This privacy policy explains how Anish Shah, doing business as The Engineer Investor (“The Engineer Investor,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit theengineerinvestor.co (the “Site”), subscribe to our newsletter, download a free resource, or buy a product. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Orders and free downloads. When you check out, including for a $0 free resource, we collect your name, email address, and order details so we can deliver your files and send receipts.
- Payment information. Paid orders are processed by Stripe. Your card number and billing details go directly to Stripe and are never stored on our servers. Stripe’s privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
- Newsletter. When you subscribe, we collect your email address (and your name if you provide it) through Kit (ConvertKit).
- Contact form. When you contact us, we collect your name, email address, and message.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data, such as pages viewed, referring site, approximate location (from your IP address), browser, and device type, through Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats. Our fonts are hosted on our own server, so loading them doesn’t send your information to third parties.
- Server logs kept by our hosting provider, including IP address, browser, and the pages requested.
- Cookies and similar technologies, described below.
How we use your information
- To deliver the products and free resources you request, including download links and receipts
- To send the newsletter you subscribed to, along with occasional related resources and product offers
- To respond to your messages and provide support
- To understand how the Site is used so we can improve it
- To prevent fraud, spam, and abuse, and to keep the Site secure
- To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We don’t use your information for purposes other than those described in this privacy policy.
If you download a free resource or buy a product, we send the emails needed to deliver it. If you subscribe to the newsletter, you’ll receive it until you unsubscribe. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed. Kit records whether newsletter emails are opened and which links are clicked, which helps us see what’s useful.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Run the Site and checkout: for example, remembering what’s in your cart (Easy Digital Downloads) and helping Stripe prevent payment fraud
- Measure traffic: Google Analytics and Jetpack Stats
- Block spam: Google reCAPTCHA on our forms
Your choice. If you’re outside the United States, analytics cookies are off until you choose: a banner lets you accept or reject them, and you can change your choice anytime using the Cookie settings link in the footer. Cookies needed to run the Site and checkout are always on. In the U.S., analytics cookies are on by default; you can opt out with Google’s browser add-on.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block them, some features, such as checkout, may not work.
Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers that help us run the Site, and only for that purpose:
- Stripe: payment processing
- Kit (ConvertKit): newsletter delivery
- Google: Analytics, reCAPTCHA, and Google Sheets (when you open a “Make a copy” link, Google’s terms and privacy policy apply)
- Automattic: Jetpack Stats and Gravatar
- Bluehost: website hosting
- Our email delivery provider: sending receipts and site emails
Outside of the providers named in this privacy policy, we may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business.
How long we keep information
- Order records: as long as needed for tax, accounting, and legal purposes
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it
- Contact messages: as long as needed to respond and follow up
- Analytics data: according to each provider’s retention settings
Your privacy rights and choices
Depending on where you live, including California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and India, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or limit certain uses. To make a request, email contact@theengineerinvestor.co. We’ll verify your request and respond within the time required by law. We won’t treat you differently for exercising these rights.
International visitors
We and our service providers may process your information in the United States and other countries, where data protection laws may differ from those where you live. By using the Site, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in those countries.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and payment processing through Stripe. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Site is intended for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We’ll change the effective date above, and for significant changes we’ll provide a more prominent notice.
